Sod Removal & Soil Prep in Palm Beach County

Turf Removal + Soil Preparation in Palm Beach County

A Full Reset for a Flatter, Healthier Lawn.

We remove failing turf, correct grade and compaction, then build a clean soil base so new sod establishes faster and stays even.

Why this works

Stop building on bad layers.

If a lawn has chronic weeds, bumps, low spots, or repeated decline, the issue is usually in the base. This hybrid service removes what’s failing and rebuilds the soil profile so your new turf can root evenly and perform long-term.

Turf removal & haul-off

Strip old sod/thatch and export material so you’re not trapping weeds, debris, or contaminated layers underneath new turf.

Grade correction

Fix low spots, smooth transitions, and improve pitch away from structures for better drainage and fewer “soft” areas.

Compaction relief

Open the soil profile with tilling/power raking (where feasible) so new sod roots faster and deeper.

Topsoil & amendments

Blend screened topsoil/sand with compost; add lime/sulfur/micronutrients and wetting agents based on soil needs.

Irrigation-ready finish

Raise/level heads to match the new grade and verify coverage so seams and edges don’t dry out.

Sod-ready handoff

A smooth, rolled surface ready for immediate installation—or we can schedule sod the same day when bundled.

What to expect

Our Removal + Soil Prep Process

  1. Assessment & measurements ~30–60 min

Walk the site, measure, note low spots, confirm access, and review irrigation head height/coverage.

  2. Removal & haul-off

Strip old turf/thatch and export material offsite for a clean base.

  3. Rough grade

Shape for drainage, correct low spots, and establish smoother transitions to hardscape/bed edges.

  4. Compaction relief

Till and/or power rake 3–6" where feasible to open the profile without pulling subsoil to the surface.

  5. Topsoil blend & amendments

Blend screened topsoil/sand with compost; add micros, lime/sulfur, and wetting agents as indicated.

  6. Fine grade & roll

Smooth, roll, and set crisp edges so the base is flat and installation-ready.

  7. Irrigation set & check

Raise/level heads to new grade and verify coverage so seams/edges stay hydrated.

  8. Ready for sod

Clean handoff to your installer—or same-day sod installation when bundled.

Materials & methods

Standard Specification

Haul-off Load and export removed material offsite; site left clean for grading and soil blending.
Soil profiling Texture observation, basic pH check; recommendations for lime/sulfur and micronutrients.
Topsoil Screened topsoil/sand blend; compost added for organic matter (typ. 10–30% by volume, site-dependent).
Compaction relief Till/power rake 3–6" where feasible; avoid mixing subsoil to the surface.
Amendments Per soil needs: lime or sulfur, micronutrient package, and wetting agent where hydrophobic.
Grade & drainage Pitch away from structures; feather transitions to hardscape/beds; address low spots.
Edges/finish Fine grade, roll, and crisp edges; remove debris; site left clean and ready.

Good to know

Removal + Soil Prep FAQs

  • Do you always need turf removal?

No. If the base is clean and stable, we can prep without full stripping. Removal is most valuable when the existing layer is contaminated (weeds/thatch/decline) or the lawn needs a true reset.

  • Do you haul the old turf away?

Yes. When removal is included, we export the material offsite so your new base is clean and consistent.

  • Do you prep without installing sod?

Yes. We can prepare and hand off to your installer, or schedule same-day sod with us.

  • How deep do you till?

Typically 3–6" where feasible based on site conditions; enough to relieve compaction without pulling subsoil to the surface.

  • Will this fix bumps and pooling?

Grade work addresses low spots and transitions. If drainage needs additional solutions, we’ll identify those during the assessment.

  • What about irrigation?

We raise/level heads to the new grade and check coverage so seams/edges don’t dry out after sod goes in.
