Why Tequesta homeowners choose Floridist

A local crew that knows Tequesta’s rules and riverfront.

Tequesta is a village of about 6,200 residents (2020 Census) at the north end of Palm Beach County, between the Loxahatchee River and the Atlantic, just south of Jonathan Dickinson State Park. It began in the 1950s as a planned community built around Tequesta Country Club.

Ordinance-ready installs

Tequesta’s fertilizer ordinance bans fertilizer for 30 days after sodding and near water. Our after-care plans follow it, so nothing goes down that the village doesn’t allow.

Riverfront and waterfront experience

Homes on the Loxahatchee and the Intracoastal mean seawalls, docks and shoreline buffers. We plan staging and protect hardscape.

Matched to the property

A shaded lot under mature oaks, a sunny golf-course home and an oceanfront property need different grasses. We match variety and prep to the actual yard.

Guided after-care

Watering, mowing timing and the right time for first nutrition through the establishment window.

Local conditions & rules

What Tequesta lawns actually deal with

Tequesta mixes river and ocean frontage with established, tree-lined streets. Its fertilizer ordinance is stricter than many people expect, and it applies to new sod.

Ordinance

No fertilizer at sodding

Tequesta’s fertilizer ordinance (Ord. 01-21) prohibits fertilizer before seeding or sodding and for 30 days after, bans nitrogen and phosphorus from June 1 through September 30, and requires at least 50% slow-release nitrogen. We time after-care around it.

Water

Shoreline buffers

No fertilizer within 10 feet of water or a seawall (3 feet with a deflector shield), and a 10-foot low-maintenance zone along shorelines. Riverfront and canal-front installs are planned with those buffers in place.

Salt

River and ocean salt

Lots near the Intracoastal and the ocean take salt air. Salt-tolerant St. Augustine such as Floratam and Palmetto, or Zoysia, holds up best.

Swales

Swale lawns

The village asks residents to keep swales mowed and unpaved, and limits artificial turf to 10% of the required landscape area with a permit. Real sod on the swale is the typical answer.

Certified

Certified fertilizer applicators

Anyone applying fertilizer commercially in Tequesta needs Florida-Friendly Best Management Practices training and state certification, with proof required for a village business tax receipt. It is worth asking any lawn provider for theirs.

Out of the blue our yard started dying so we contacted multiple companies to determine the cause & offer solutions. By far the most knowledgeable person we met with was Brandon of Floridist Sod Installation & Lawn Treatment Services. He had the soil tested, then killed the effected area, tilled the area twice and put down new sod. Brandon & his team completed the project as outlined & agreed upon in a timely manner. The communication was great throughout the process and we would highly recommend using Floridist for any lawn projects.

We had a large concrete slab removed from our backyard- and a crazy mix of weeds/grass. After meeting a few people for estimates- Brandon came out the easy choice. He was patient and thorough explaining the process. He tested the soil and leveled the yard. Before he installed the sod, he checked the soil again- adding more nutrients. He alleviated my Old Hippy concerns regarding chemicals and never talked down to us. He came back throughout the process and changed sprinkler settings- HE TOOK CARE OF EVERYTHING! Super awesome- great work ethic. Going to use him again for landscaping! 🎉🤩💪🏻🌞🌴

Tequesta-specific questions

FAQs from Tequesta homeowners

The questions we hear most about Tequesta properties. Anything not covered here gets addressed during the on-site assessment.

Can new sod be fertilized right after installation in Tequesta?

No. Tequesta’s ordinance bans fertilizer before seeding or sodding and for 30 days after. Our after-care plan focuses on water and mowing first, then schedules nutrition once the window has passed and outside the June–September restricted season.

Which sod variety works best in Tequesta?

Sunny lots usually suit Floratam St. Augustine; shaded yards under oaks suit CitraBlue or Palmetto. For a dense, upscale finish, Zoysia such as EMPIRE is worth considering.

Do you work in Tequesta Country Club and other HOAs?

Yes. Our HOA sod installation proposals include the certified variety, scope and certificates of insurance that associations typically request.

Which grass handles salt air best?

UF/IFAS rates St. Augustine and Zoysia as the most salt-tolerant lawn grasses for homeowners; both handle some salt spray, though neither can be irrigated with salt water. Floratam, Palmetto and CitraBlue St. Augustine and Zoysia are the usual choices.

How is new sod watered under the water restrictions?

South Florida’s watering rule limits established lawns to two days a week, with no watering from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but new plantings get extra watering days for up to 90 days. We set a new sod watering schedule that stays within the rules.

Are you licensed and insured in Palm Beach County?

Yes. Licensed and insured for Palm Beach County, with current certificates available on request — often required by associations, clubs and gated communities. More about who we are.
